Critical Needs

The meal being served at the Pilgrim School

The meal being served at the Pilgrim School

The Pilgrim School (L’Ecole des Pelerins):

  1. 1. The earth quakes in Haiti have caused the price of food to escalate.

Our most urgent concern right now is the feeding the Pilgrim School (L’Ecole des Pelerins) children. The meal at the school in many cases is the only meal these children eat.

We anticipate the food budget for the school will increase by $300.00 a month.

Your support would be greatly appreciated. Donate to our Pilgrim School Fund:

  2. 2. Expand the school to include grades 7-9.

At the moment we have an immediate need to expand the school by three grade levels. The Pilgrim School (L’Ecole des Pelerins) presently consists of only a primary school (equivalent to American K-6 grades). In order to provide the 6th grade graduates with the oportunity to complete middle school, we support them with scholarships to attend a middle school in the Les Cayes area. Because of the need for transportation and the higher costs at this other school, these scholarship amounts are much higher than the L’Ecole des Pelerins cost per student.

In 2009, we were not able to send every graduate to middle school. Our goal is to soon have three additional grade levels at the Pilgrim School to give each of our students the opportunity to complete both a primary and middle school education (equivalent to American 7-9 grades).

We appreciate any size gift to help support the Pilgrim School:

  3. 3. Finishing the interior of the Pilgrim School kitchen and Alcercia Medical Clinic building so we can begin using them.

An Only Slightly Less Urgent Need for the Pilgrim School is that currently we are renting a neighboring building in Faugasse so that we will have a kitchen to fix meals for the school.

We have completed a basic cement block structure (foundation, walls, ceiling) on our own property. One half will be a kitchen for the Pilgrim School; the other half of this building will be the Alceria Medical Clinic. However, the interior is still unfinished.

Another well must be dug in this location to provide clean water. We will be finishing the walls and ceilings, purchasing and installing doors, and painting. We also will need to purchase and install counters, cabinets and kitchen equipment. The clinic will also need to be equipped in order to begin to be used by our school nurse and future medical mission teams. These teams will serve the community as well as the school children.

This is a MISSION TRIP OPPORTUNITY. If you or your group would like to help please contact us.

Tax deductible, financial gifts of any size would be of great help! Thank you!
