Youth Ministry
Doorway to Peace began The Association for Juvenile Development at the request of a group of Pilgrim School teachers. Due to the current cultural condition of Haiti most of the youth from the impoverished families and the many orphans have developed an affinity for violence, crime, delinquency and voodoo (also called witchcraft). As a result most of the villages, towns and cities in Haiti are unsafe. In particular there is an issue of rape and teen pregnancy. The Association for Juvenile Development was created to provide an alternative for the youth in crisis. It provides a safe place to gather and it helps to enable them to build positive, strong moral character.
All of the youth leaders in The Association for Juvenile Development are Christian educators. The program teaches leadership and moral values to the youth through sporting activities, crafts and cooking. The Association for Juvenile Development meets three times per week during the summer months and twice per week during the school year. Presently there are about seventy youth who attend.
Our vision is to increase the number of attendees for the summer program. We would like to offer computer classes, music study, English classes and job development.
Would you like to help? Besides our general operating fund for this program we need to build a Youth Community Center and we need computers. We already have land on which to build the center. This is a great progam with enormous potential. Please consider a donation for The Association for Juvenile Development.
